Zelensky: Sanctions against Russia should not be lifted
Kyiv, October 25 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that it was too early to lift sanctions against Russia and commented on possible meetings between the leaders of the United States (US), Russia and Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concerns about a possible meeting between the leaders of Ukraine, the US and Russia if sanctions against Russia were lifted.
Zelensky stated that sanctions had been imposed on Russia because of its aggression and should not be lifted merely to create an opportunity for a meeting. He emphasized that even if the war ended, a specific process should be followed before lifting the sanctions.
Zelensky said that if sanctions against Russia were lifted, Ukraine could enter into trilateral dialogue without knowing what would happen in the future. He also highlighted the uncertainty surrounding the possibility of reimposing the sanctions introduced at the beginning of the war.
President Zelensky stated that he did not want to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin without having any leverage regarding sanctions, financial resources and frozen assets.
