Wong: There is no more important partner for Australia than Indonesia
Canberra, 6 February (Hibya) – Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong made a statement following the signing of the Australia–Indonesia Joint Security Agreement.
Australian Foreign Minister Wong said it was an honor to witness Prime Minister Albanese and President Prabowo sign the historic Australia–Indonesia Joint Security Agreement.
Stating that this is the most significant step Australia and Indonesia have taken together in 30 years to strengthen their partnership, Wong said:
“The agreement is about standing by each other in our most challenging moments. It commits us to consultations at leader and ministerial levels on issues affecting our shared security. It also commits us to consult one another when we face adverse challenges and to consider measures through which we can respond individually or jointly. As neighbors, it brings us even closer and strengthens the foundations of our cooperation.”
Emphasizing that there is no more important partner for Australia than Indonesia, Wong said, “In these uncertain times, this is a demonstration of the importance we attach to this relationship and the mutual respect we have for each other. This treaty is part of how Australia is building its future in our region.”
