Von der Leyen: We will keep our children safe in the digital world as well
Brussels, March 5 (Hibya) - President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced that a special panel has been established to ensure children's safety in the digital environment and that it will present its recommendations by the summer.
President of the European Commission von der Leyen held the first meeting today of the special panel that will address the safety of children in the digital world. Von der Leyen said, “Just as we make the real world safe for them, we must assume the same responsibility in the digital world.”
The president emphasized that the opportunities offered by technology should not come at the expense of children's safety, health, or happiness. Reminding that technology platforms in Europe are responsible for ensuring user safety, von der Leyen stated that further steps must be taken to protect and empower children online.
The panel will work intensively with experts and relevant stakeholders, including young people, to develop a strong and practical European approach that will ensure child safety in the digital age. The special panel will share its recommendations for further action with the public by the summer.
