Brussels, June 29 (Hibya) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Union has activated its support mechanisms in response to the ongoing wildfires in southern France.

Von der Leyen said that four firefighting aircraft from the European Union's RescEU fleet had been deployed to France from Cyprus and Sweden, adding that the aircraft would support firefighters battling the blazes around Perpignan.
Von der Leyen said, "As wildfires continue to rage in southern France, Europe has stepped into action. We have deployed four firefighting aircraft from our RescEU fleet. The aircraft will arrive today from Cyprus and Sweden to support French firefighters around Perpignan. Europe stands with France."
