Von der Leyen: Economic imbalances are on the G7 agenda
Brussels, 17 June (Hibya) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that global economy and geopolitical developments were discussed within the G7 framework.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the discussions focused on two main challenges, the first of which is structural imbalances in the global economy, including overcapacity in strategic sectors.
The second topic, she noted, includes crises affecting all countries such as the Russia–Ukraine war, conflicts in the Middle East, and public health emergencies, which can further increase existing economic vulnerabilities.
Referring to developments in the Strait of Hormuz as an example of how geopolitical shocks deepen economic problems, Von der Leyen said partner countries aim to strengthen reliable partnership networks, expand preferential trade links, and diversify critical raw material sources.
