Tsahkna: Pressure on Russia must be increased
Tallinn, October 27 (Hibya) - Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that pressure on Russia must be increased to ensure that it takes peace negotiations seriously. Tsahkna called for continued support for Ukraine and tighter sanctions against Russia.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that every contact with Russia should demonstrate Europe's unity and support for Ukraine. Tsahkna emphasized that there would be no compromise on the fundamental principles of European security.
Arguing that there is no indication that Russia has changed its strategic objectives or is genuinely interested in negotiations, Tsahkna stated that Moscow's goal is not limited to seizing parts of Ukraine but extends to taking control of the entire country and weakening Europe's security architecture.
Tsahkna noted that achieving a just and lasting peace requires increasing pressure on Russia, tightening sanctions, preventing sanctions circumvention and maintaining Russia's international isolation. He also called for continued support for Ukraine.
