Trump: We think we can reach an agreement with Iran
Memphis, March 23 (Hibya) - US President Donald Trump said they could reach an agreement with Iran and that they had given a five-day deadline.
Highlights from US President Trump's speech:
"We have been negotiating with Iran for a long time, and this time they decided to reach an agreement. I hope it will be possible. However, no matter what, we will ensure that Iran does not possess nuclear weapons. They will absolutely not have nuclear weapons.
The agreement made during the Obama era gave Iran such an opportunity. If that agreement had been implemented, we would have found ourselves in a situation no one would want to be in.
Over the past three weeks, together with our military and our partners, we have been destroying Iran's military capacity with devastating force. We are destroying their ballistic missiles and drones. Their missile launch capability has decreased by 90 percent. They hardly have any missiles left because most have been destroyed, and we have also destroyed their defense industry. We struck 158 of their ships. We destroyed everything that could be destroyed.
We could have reached an agreement a long time ago. 88 people gathered to choose a new leader, and now they are gone. Now they want to choose a new leader again, but no one wants to be a leader. It is a dangerous job that no one in the world wants; my job is also dangerous, but theirs is worse.
Now Iran has a new opportunity. They have a chance to eliminate the threat to the United States and its allies. This way, we can have a much safer planet.
We are currently having very good negotiations with Iran. The negotiations started last night and the night before, and I think they are going well. They want peace, they have accepted that they will not have nuclear weapons, but we will see.
We think we can reach an agreement. We will give five days and see where it takes us. And at the end of this period, there could be a very good agreement."
