Trump to Fed Chair Powell: Cut interest rates immediately
Washington, 29 January (Hibya) – United States President Donald Trump criticised Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Jerome Powell for refusing to cut interest rates.
In a statement posted on his social media account, US President Donald Trump commented on Fed Chair Jerome Powell and the current interest rate policy.
Stating that inflation is no longer a threat, Trump said: “Jerome ‘too late’ Powell once again refused to cut interest rates, despite having no justification for keeping them so high. He is harming our country and our national security. This costs America hundreds of billions of dollars a year in completely unnecessary and unjustified interest expenses.”
Emphasising the economic strength generated by tariffs, Trump added: “Because of the huge amounts of money flowing into our country due to tariffs, we should be paying lower interest rates than any other country in the world. Tariffs have made America strong and powerful again. In line with this strength, we should be paying the lowest interest rates in the world.”
Referring to trade relations with other countries, Trump said: “I have been very kind and understanding toward countries all over the world. With a single signature, billions of dollars more will flow into the United States. The Fed must significantly cut interest rates. Now!”
