The Clintons agree to testify in the Epstein case
Washington, February 3 (Hibya) – Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, have agreed to testify in a congressional investigation related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
This decision was made just days before a vote on whether the couple would face prosecution for criminal contempt after months of deadlock caused by their refusal to appear before the House Oversight Committee.
Bill Clinton knew Epstein, who died in prison in 2019, but says he was unaware of his sexual crimes and cut ties with him twenty years ago.
On Monday evening, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff Angel Ureña published a message confirming that the couple would appear before the panel.
In a tweet addressed to the House Oversight Committee, Ureña wrote: “They negotiated in good faith. You did not.”
“They told you under oath what they knew, but you did not care. Nevertheless, the former president and the former secretary of state will be there. They look forward to setting a precedent that will apply to everyone.”
The Clintons said they had previously provided sworn statements to the committee and had already shared the “limited information” they possessed about Epstein.
The couple had described the subpoenas as “nothing more than a maneuver to embarrass political opponents at the direction of President Trump.”
Bill Clinton has never been accused by Epstein’s abuse survivors and has stated that he had no knowledge of Epstein’s sexual crimes.
