Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated, in remarks on Canada's visa measures targeting Russia, that Moscow was attempting to restore its reputation through international sporting events.

In a social media post, Sybiha said Russia's continuous and deliberate attacks against Ukraine should not be overlooked because of its participation in international sporting competitions. He emphasized that international tournaments must not become a back door for Russia to regain acceptance on the global stage, adding that Canada had demonstrated a firm stance through concrete visa measures.

Calling on other hockey nations to follow Canada's example, Sybiha thanked Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Lena Metlege Diab, and Minister of Sport Adam van Koeverden for their approach and leadership.
