Sandu: Moldova was the first country to recognize Lithuania's independence
Chisinau, March 11 (Hibya) – Moldovan President Maia Sandu recalled that Moldova became the first country to recognize Lithuania’s independence in 1990 and expressed her hope that Lithuania’s experience would guide them on their European path.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu referred to the historical ties between the two countries and their shared struggle for freedom.
Referring to the historical process, Sandu said: “In May 1990, Moldova, which was still part of the Soviet Union at the time, became the first country to recognize Lithuania’s independence. We were not free. But when we saw freedom, we recognized it.”
Appreciating Lithuania’s achievements over the past 36 years, Sandu stated: “Thirty-six years later, standing in Vilnius, I said: you showed us that it is possible. Now help us follow your path.”
