Sanchez: We will prevent universities from becoming businesses
Madrid, October 8 (Hibya) - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that public universities are under pressure and that the uncontrolled proliferation of private universities is harming the quality of the education system and equal opportunities.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez commented on the country's higher education system.
Noting that public universities are under pressure, Sanchez said: "Public universities are under siege, and the uncontrolled proliferation of private universities is damaging the quality of our system and undermining equal opportunities."
Emphasizing the need to protect higher education and secure more resources from the relevant authorities, Sanchez stated: "Higher education needs regulation to ensure its protection and to receive more resources from the competent administrations."
Sanchez said they would comply with the Supreme Court's ruling but were working on new regulations. "We respect the Supreme Court's decision, but we are not sitting idly by. We are working on new regulations to prevent universities from becoming businesses," he said.
