UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell drew attention to the severe and devastating impact of the conflict on children, emphasizing that the humanitarian situation in El Obeid has reached a particularly alarming level.

Presenting data on casualties recorded during the first half of 2026 and stressing the need to protect children, Russell said: "The war in Sudan, including drone attacks, is becoming increasingly deadly for children. During the first half of 2026, at least 330 children were reported killed or injured."

Expressing concern over the situation on the ground, Russell added: "The situation in El Obeid is particularly alarming. Children must be protected."
