Prevot: The execution of six people in Jordan is concerning
Brussels, June 24 (Hibya) - Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot expressed concern over the execution of six people in Jordan following a long-standing de facto moratorium and called on all countries to abolish the death penalty.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot spoke about the executions in Jordan, the relationship between state security and the right to life, and Belgium's global policy against the death penalty.
Drawing attention to developments in Jordan and emphasizing the importance of the right to life, Prevot said: “The execution of six people in Jordan after years of a de facto moratorium is concerning. State security and respect for the right to life are compatible.”
Reiterating Belgium’s clear position on the matter, Prevot concluded: “Belgium strongly encourages all countries to abolish the death penalty.”
