Petro: The alliance proposed by Mordisco does not defend Venezuela
Bogota, January 11 (Hibya) – Colombian President Gustavo Petro rejected the alliance proposal put forward by Ivan Mordisco, stating that drug trafficking is being used as a pretext for foreign intervention and destabilization.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro made statements on the activities of armed groups in the region and strategies to combat drug trafficking.
Speaking about Ivan Mordisco’s proposal, Petro said: “The alliance proposed by Mr. Ivan Mordisco does not defend Venezuela, Colombia, or Latin America; on the contrary, it serves as a pretext for occupation and even for using dark money to sabotage elections and hinder electoral freedom. Their dedication to drug trafficking has become a perfect excuse for aggression.”
Emphasizing the need for regional cooperation, Petro stated: “At this moment, despite the chaos created by occupation, Latin American armies must come together and eliminate this pretext that benefits no one in our countries. Drug trafficking must be disarmed and reduced.”
Petro concluded: “Latin America must defend itself against any actor seeking to destabilize it, and this requires the unity of its people, its arms, and its states. Armed drug traffickers must be defeated by the people uniting with their states. I have invited the current president of Venezuela to work together toward this goal.”
