Czech President Petr Pavel commented on his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.

Pavel said, “Diplomacy is most important, especially between those who are in disagreement. I emphasized this in my speech at the UN General Assembly.”

Stating that Russia’s attack on Ukraine demonstrates the consequences of violating international law, Pavel said, “Russia’s attack on Ukraine shows what kind of suffering violations of international law can cause and how far the consequences of war can reach.”

Pavel said the United Nations should be strengthened so that it can prevent conflicts, protect civilians and create space for negotiations even when reaching an agreement seems distant, adding, “We need a UN that can prevent conflicts, protect civilians and create space for negotiations even when agreement seems far away.”

Stating that Czechia is ready to take responsibility, Pavel said, “That is why we are working for a seat on the UN Security Council.”
