European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced that the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have reached an agreement on new rules covering organic production, labelling, certification and trade.

Metsola stated that the new regulations would create fairer competitive conditions for organic producers, reduce bureaucratic burdens on small businesses and strengthen consumer confidence in organic food.

Metsola thanked European Parliament Agriculture Committee Chair Veronika Vrecionova, rapporteur Camilla Laureti and her team for their contributions to the agreement. She noted that the process had been concluded as part of efforts carried out in cooperation with Ireland's presidency of the Council of the European Union.
