Macron: Hezbollah must immediately stop its escalating attacks
Paris, March 14 (Hibya) - French President Emmanuel Macron, after speaking with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, called on the parties to reach an immediate ceasefire in order to prevent the crisis in Lebanon from deepening.
French President Emmanuel Macron made a statement on the military escalation in the region following his contacts with Lebanon’s senior state officials.
Emphasizing that political stability in Lebanon must be preserved, Macron said: "Yesterday, I spoke with President Aoun, Prime Minister Salam, and Parliament Speaker Berri. Everything must be done to prevent Lebanon from descending into chaos. Hezbollah must immediately stop its escalating attacks. Israel must abandon its large-scale attacks and stop its intense air strikes, especially while hundreds of thousands of people have fled the bombings."
Drawing attention to the Lebanese government's willingness for a diplomatic solution, Macron said: "The Lebanese government has stated that it is willing to enter into direct talks with Israel. All segments of the country need to be represented. Israel must seize this opportunity to begin talks and a ceasefire, find a lasting solution, and allow the Lebanese authorities to fulfill their commitments regarding Lebanon's sovereignty."
Macron concluded his statement by saying: "France is ready to facilitate these talks by hosting them in Paris."
