Lula calls for five-day workweek with two days of rest
Brasilia, October 14 (Hibya) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva renewed his call to abolish the system of working 6 days and resting 1 day per week, stating that workers should have 5 working days and 2 days of rest.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called for an end to the system of working 6 days and resting 1 day per week. Lula said the country should move to a schedule of 5 working days and 2 days of rest so that employees can spend more time with their families and enjoy life more.
Noting that he had made the same call before, Lula said, "I've already said it, and I'll say it again: We want to end the system of 6 days of work and 1 day of rest so that people can work 5 days and rest for 2 days."
Lula stated that the proposed arrangement would allow workers to spend time with their families, travel, have conversations, and enjoy life. He particularly highlighted that women often face a triple workload.
Pledging to continue fighting for more dignified working conditions, Lula said, "We will fight to bring greater human dignity to working life without harming either employers or employees."
