Ice road opened to vehicle traffic between two Estonian islands
Stockholm, February 9 (Hibya) – Due to disruptions in ferry services caused by dense sea ice, a temporary 17-kilometer ice road has been opened to vehicle traffic between Estonia’s Saaremaa and Hiiumaa islands.
The 17-kilometer road across the frozen sea was opened on Sunday by the Transport Administration to provide an alternative connection for island residents.
The road will be open only during daylight hours and will be subject to strict safety regulations, including vehicle weight limits, speed restrictions, and minimum distances between vehicles.
Authorities stated that conditions will be closely monitored and that the road may be closed at short notice if safety conditions deteriorate.
