Guterres: We must prevent tensions in the region from spiraling out of control
Cairo, October 26 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed support for Egypt's mediation efforts to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran, calling for diplomacy and restraint to prevent an escalation of tensions in the region.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed appreciation for Egypt's mediation role in helping create the conditions for dialogue between the United States and Iran.
Guterres said, “We need maximum restraint and diplomatic solutions. If the saber-rattling we are witnessing turns into mutual escalation, the situation in the region could spiral out of control.”
Secretary-General Guterres emphasized the need to fully restore navigation rights and freedoms in accordance with international law, calling for the protection of navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
