Guterres: Children must never be targets in war
New York, June 19 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres stated that a large number of children are subjected to sexual violence in conflicts, stressing that protecting children is both a legal and moral obligation.
Referring to the threats and human rights violations faced by children in conflict zones around the world, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on the international community and parties to conflicts to fulfill their responsibilities.
Highlighting the devastating impact of conflicts on children, Guterres said: "As conflicts escalate around the world, a shocking number of girls and boys are becoming victims of sexual violence. Children must never be targets in war."
Emphasizing international law and humanitarian values, Guterres concluded his statement by saying: "Protecting them is a legal and moral obligation for every party to a conflict and every country."
