During the call, Al Thani conveyed the latest developments in the region and Qatar’s stance, stating that they had to act in self-defense and had intensified diplomatic efforts to prevent the crisis from spreading and tensions from escalating. Al Thani expressed appreciation for China’s fair position and mediation efforts, and voiced hope that China would play a greater role in achieving a ceasefire.

Wang Yi stated that as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), China has always upheld justice in international affairs by adhering to principles. He added that the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran without authorization from the UNSC clearly violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter as well as the fundamental norms governing international relations.

Wang emphasized that they do not consider the expansion of the attacks appropriate and condemned attacks against civilians. He also stressed that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Gulf countries must be respected. Calling for an immediate ceasefire to end the war and for the crisis to be resolved through political means, Wang Yi underlined China’s support for Gulf countries to have a say in the future and destiny of the region.

Wang Yi also stressed that China will continue to play a constructive role in its own way to reduce tensions in the region and restore peace.
