Diplomatic statements between the French and Russian Embassies
The French Embassy in Türkiye issued a statement on social media on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine.
In its post, the Embassy noted that the war, which was initially expected to conclude in a short time, has entered its fifth year and reacted to Russia’s current “deterrence” rhetoric.
The French Embassy referred to statements by Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov that the main objective of the operation is “to ensure the security of people living in eastern Ukraine” and that Russia is “open to a political-diplomatic solution.” It also recalled Peskov’s claim that the intention of Paris and London to supply nuclear weapons to Ukraine would violate international law.
Arguing that the situation on the ground contradicts Russia’s claims, the Embassy stated: “We have entered the fifth year of a war that was supposedly to last three days.”
