EU Council President Antonio Costa held a consultative meeting in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron to determine the future strategies of the European Union.

While the focus of the meeting was the preparation process for the informal EU summit on February 12, Costa said regarding Europe’s position in a changing world: “I am in Paris to meet President Emmanuel Macron as part of my consultations in preparation for the informal meeting on competitiveness and the Internal Market on February 12. In a world undergoing profound change, strengthening our autonomy and protecting our strategic sectors is more important than ever.”

Emphasizing that the economic potential of the Single Market must be fully utilized, Costa stated: “The Single Market still has enormous and untapped potential.
