Condemnation from Arab and Islamic countries over US Ambassador’s remarks
Jerusalem, 22 February (Hibya) - Led by Palestine, the Foreign Ministries of 14 countries along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the US Ambassador’s remarks regarding Arab territories, including the West Bank, as contrary to international law and provocative.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry issued a joint statement with Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon and Syria, as well as the OIC, the Arab League and the GCC.
The statement strongly condemned the US Ambassador’s comments suggesting that Israel’s control over Arab territories, including the occupied West Bank, could be acceptable, expressing deep concern.
It said the remarks constitute a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter and threaten regional security and stability.
The ministries emphasized that Israel has no sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territories or other occupied Arab lands, rejected any annexation of the West Bank or separation of the Gaza Strip, and opposed settlement expansion.
The statement reaffirmed support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the 4 June 1967 borders.
