Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said civilians in Oleshky, in the Kherson region, which it says is temporarily occupied by Russia, are facing serious humanitarian problems.

In a social media post, the ministry said there are severe shortages of food, water, electricity and medicine in Oleshky due to the disruption of regular supply routes.

The statement alleged that Russia is blocking access to the town and not allowing civilians to leave the area.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Ukrainians in different countries around the world have organized demonstrations to draw attention to the situation in Oleshky, including one held in Portugal.

The statement said civilians trapped in Oleshky urgently need assistance as winter approaches and called on the international community to act to rescue civilians stranded in the area.

The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission also reported in June that civilians in the occupied Kherson region were facing serious risks due to shortages of food and medical assistance, while evacuations in and around Oleshky were being complicated by drone attacks and mines.
