In a post on social media, Lula said he was deeply saddened by Bagre Fagundes' passing, noting that the artist played an important role in preserving and promoting the Pampas culture of southern Brazil to wider audiences.
Emphasizing that Bagre Fagundes made a significant contribution to preserving traditional gaúcho music through his guitar and poetry, Lula said: "With his guitar and poetry, Bagre helped preserve and spread traditional gaúcho music, bringing the Pampas culture he held so dearly in his heart to broad audiences."
Lula also noted that the artist was active in social causes in addition to his cultural work, saying: "He always fought for social causes and was a great comrade in the struggle in Rio Grande do Sul."
Lula recalled that it was an honor for him to present Bagre Fagundes with the Ordem do Mérito Cultural (Order of Cultural Merit) in 2025, stating: "It was an honor for me to award him the Ordem do Mérito Cultural in 2025."
Concluding his message, Lula extended his condolences to Bagre Fagundes' family, friends, and admirers, saying: "I send a warm embrace to all of Bagre Fagundes' family, friends, and admirers."
