IDF: Islamic Jihad member involved in October 7 attack killed
Tel Aviv, Aug. 3 (Hibya) - The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that Mahmoud Fatair, a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad who allegedly participated in the October 7 attack and played a role in holding an Israeli hostage, was killed during an operation in Deir al-Balah.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that during an operation carried out over the weekend in the Deir al-Balah area of the Gaza Strip, Mahmoud Fatair, who was identified as the commander of the Nukhba unit of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad's Central Camps Brigade, was killed.
According to the IDF statement, Fatair participated in the October 7, 2023 attack against Israel, played a role in the captivity of Israeli hostage Rom Braslavski, and took part in ceremonies for the handover of several hostages who had previously been released.
The statement further alleged that Fatair had recently been planning attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians, adding that the operation was conducted to eliminate this threat. The IDF also said that Southern Command forces would continue operating in the area in accordance with the existing agreements.
