Berendsen supports EU sanctions for Ukrainian children
Brussels, May 11 (Hibya) - Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen announced that they support the new EU sanctions imposed due to the forced transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia and that they are determined to stop these practices.
Berendsen stated that Russia was forcibly abducting Ukrainian children and subjecting them to adoption procedures, describing these practices as “a deliberate attempt to erase Ukraine’s future.”
Minister Berendsen welcomed the adoption of new European Union sanctions targeting individuals and institutions responsible for these practices. He emphasized that the Netherlands is determined to stop this “cruel tactic.”
The statement also noted that following the EU Foreign Ministers meeting, discussions would be held with Andrii Sybiha and members of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children regarding joint efforts to locate the children, reunite them with their families, and hold those responsible accountable.
The Netherlands emphasized the need for coordinated action within the EU and increased international pressure on this issue.
