Barrack: We support the ceasefire in Syria and the integration of Kurds
Ankara, Jan. 18 (Hibya) - U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria Thomas J. Barrack said they welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), underscoring the importance of integrating Kurds into a unified Syria.
Ambassador Barrack stated that they appreciated the constructive efforts demonstrated by the Syrian government and the SDF through the ceasefire agreement reached today. He said the agreement reopens the path of dialogue and cooperation for a unified Syria.
The ambassador said, “Two great Syrian leaders have come together with a shared vision to free their country and their people from tyranny, building a brighter future for all Syrians. This agreement and ceasefire mark a critical turning point, where former rivals embrace partnership instead of division.”
Barrack also noted that Syrian President al-Sharaa affirmed that Kurds are an inseparable part of Syria, emphasizing that the United States looks forward to seamlessly integrating its historic Kurdish partner in the fight against ISIS with the newest member of the Global Coalition.
The United States said it would support the process to finalize the details of the ceasefire agreement and ensure the full integration of Kurds into a unified, inclusive Syria. The ambassador added that this process would advance shared objectives that strengthen reconciliation and national unity.
