Barrack: A new South Caucasus that is connected and at peace is taking shape
Ankara, April 28 (Hibya) – U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria Tom Barrack described the establishment of a joint working group between Türkiye and Armenia to renew the Kars-Gyumri Railway as an important milestone for regional peace and stability.
Referring to the historical importance of the railway, Barrack said: “This railway was a vital trade and transit link that brought the region together for more than a century before the last train crossed the Türkiye-Armenia border in July 1993.”
Stating that this step aligns with the U.S. vision for the region, Barrack said: “This progress reflects Trump’s vision of the International Route for Peace and Prosperity and the historic peace summit hosted by President Trump at the White House on August 8.”
Barrack said: “I applaud Türkiye and Armenia’s recent steps to reconnect their economies and peoples.”
Speaking about the new era in the region, Barrack stated: “In line with President Trump’s commitment to stability and prosperity in the region, a new South Caucasus that is connected and at peace is taking shape.”
