Zelensky: Russia began the day by committing more unjustified killings
Kyiv, June 22 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia continues its attacks against Ukraine even on the day commemorating World War II, saying that world wars could have been avoided if past leaders had valued human life over imperial delusions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about the World War II commemorative events held in Russia on June 22 and the drone attacks carried out by the Russian military against Ukraine's Sumy region on the same day.
Highlighting the significance of this historical period for Ukraine, Zelensky said: "Today, as on every June 22, there will be a major event in Russia about World War II and one of its bloodiest chapters, the invasion of the Soviet Union by Nazi Germany. For Ukraine, this period has always been a reminder of the importance of peace and the need to honor the millions of innocent victims of World War II."
Referring to imperialist misconceptions, Zelensky stated: "This was a period that should have forever changed the way every state and the world viewed human life, establishing life itself as the highest value. If the leaders of that era had acted according to the value of human life rather than their imperial delusions, there would have been no world wars."
Criticizing Russia's military actions on the day of remembrance, Zelensky said: "But today, Russia began the day not by honoring those who died in World War II or by sending signals that could help end the current war—Russia's war against Ukraine—but by committing more completely unjustified killings."
Sharing details about the civilian casualties, Zelensky concluded: "In the Sumy region, a Russian drone killed a child, a grandmother, and a man. The mother and two other children from the same family were injured."
