Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made remarks regarding the European Union (EU) Council presidency process.

Zelensky thanked Cyprus, noting that during its presidency important steps were taken, including the official launch of Ukraine's accession negotiations with the European Union (EU) and the opening of the first negotiating chapter.

He also stated that the activation of the €90 billion financial support package and the approval of the 20th sanctions package against Russia were critical for the security of Ukraine and Europe.

Congratulating Ireland on assuming the presidency of the EU Council, Zelensky said it would be possible to open the remaining negotiating chapters in the coming period and that there were no serious obstacles to this process. He added: "We are also hopeful that fair pressure on Russia will be expanded. Right now, thanks to our long-range and medium-range sanctions, Russia has become particularly vulnerable. These achievements must be reinforced by new decisive steps from Europe and our other partners. Equally important is that the European Union remain maximally results-oriented in all programs that strengthen Europe, especially in our joint defense cooperation. Ukraine is ready for active work because our shared strength and unity are the foundation of our common security."
