Zelenski: More than 600,000 people left without electricity in Russian attacks
Kyiv, October 14 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said more than 600,000 people were left without electricity as a result of Russian attacks targeting energy infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region and Kharkiv.
Ukrainian President Zelenski said Russia carried out attacks targeting energy and critical infrastructure facilities in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, the Kyiv region and Kharkiv. Zelenski said 39 ballistic missiles, more than 120 attack drones and loitering munitions were used in the attacks.
Zelenski said more than 600,000 people were left without electricity as a result of the attacks and noted that the power outages could spread across a wider area. Zelenski said 26 components of the electricity system and 4 facilities in the oil and gas sector were damaged, adding that there were people killed and injured in the attacks.
Zelenski said energy facilities were targeted despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for a ceasefire covering attacks on energy infrastructure, arguing that Russia was disregarding statements coming from the United States.
Thanking the teams carrying out repair work following the attacks, Ukraine’s energy workers and State Emergency Service personnel, Zelenski called on U.S. President Trump to impose strong sanctions on Russia and provide Ukraine with additional interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
Zelenski said Russia had failed to take advantage of the opportunity to reduce tensions and had chosen to continue the war, calling on the United States, Europe and other partners to support Ukraine. Zelenski said peace could be achieved through strength.
