UN Secretary-General Guterres: These injustices must stop
New York, June 11 (Hibya) - United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an end to ongoing injustices, drawing attention to escalating settler violence and illegal expansion activities in the occupied West Bank.
Highlighting the scale of illegal annexation attempts and human rights violations in the region, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed that international law must be applied without compromise.
Referring to alarming reports from the West Bank, Guterres said: “Disturbing reports are coming from the occupied West Bank regarding settler violence: house demolitions, the relentless expansion of illegal Israeli settlements, the continued displacement of Palestinians, and the threat of an annexation attempt lacking legal validity after decades of occupation.”
Guterres stated that current policies are undermining hopes for peace: “There is a risk of making the two-state solution impossible when no other viable option exists. And beyond all this, there is the assumption of impunity.”
Reminding the international community and states of their responsibilities, Guterres concluded his statement with the following words:
“These injustices must stop. Countries must fulfill all their obligations under international law. No exceptions.”
