UN Secretary-General Guterres pays official visit to Pakistan
Islamabad, October 6 (Hibya) - Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar welcomed United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who arrived in Pakistan for an official visit, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar welcomed UN Secretary-General Guterres, who is on an official visit to Pakistan, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to a statement by Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, regional and global issues related to peace and security were reviewed during the meeting. Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir, Afghanistan, counterterrorism and the future of multilateralism were also discussed.
Dar briefed Guterres on Pakistan's position regarding Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty. Dar reiterated his call for a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Referring also to Pakistan's diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue and de-escalation, Dar said Islamabad had facilitated talks between the United States and Iran.
Dar emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy are the most effective means of resolving disputes.
Guterres, meanwhile, appreciated Pakistan's longstanding contributions to the United Nations, as well as its diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue, mediation and de-escalation.
