According to CCTV, U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin prior to his scheduled meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The call reportedly took place amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and expectations of a possible agreement.

Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov stated that the call was initiated by the American side and that Trump listened carefully to Russia’s assessments regarding the prospects of reaching an agreement.

The statement noted that Putin accepted Trump’s proposal to continue mediation efforts through a specially formed working group, and that the two leaders agreed to reestablish contact after Trump’s meeting with the Ukrainian side.
