A meeting was held between Libya and Palestine to develop bilateral relations and discuss developments in Palestine.

Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Ağabekyan Şahin was received in Tripoli, the capital of Libya, on October 12, 2026, by Tahir al-Baur, who is tasked with running Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Delegations from the two countries also met during the talks.

According to a statement by the Palestinian Foreign Ministry, the meeting addressed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories as well as the humanitarian and political situation in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem. The parties discussed the importance of intensifying Arab and international efforts to protect civilians, halt attacks and ensure the urgent and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.

The agenda also included strengthening political and diplomatic coordination between the two countries’ foreign ministries, aligning positions on regional and international developments and increasing support for the rights of the Palestinian people on multilateral platforms.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Şahin expressed appreciation for Libya’s support for the Palestinian cause and emphasized the importance of maintaining cooperation and coordination between the two countries.

Libyan official al-Baur, for his part, reiterated Libya’s position supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and to establish an independent, sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital. The statement also noted opposition to attempts at forced displacement in the Palestinian territories and to changing their demographic or geographic structure.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a Libya-Palestine joint cooperation committee, activate the memorandum of understanding on political consultations signed between the two countries and appoint a non-resident Libyan ambassador to Palestine.

The parties also emphasized the importance of continuing consultations and coordination on regional and international developments and strengthening joint Arab efforts to support the rights of the Palestinian people.
