Pavel: Historic flag sent to Ukraine as a symbol of solidarity
Prague, 17 November (Hibya) – Czech President Petr Pavel, while commemorating the events that shaped the country’s democracy, emphasized that the struggle for freedom is a daily reality in Ukraine.
Pavel announced that the Hudba Hradní Stráže had transported to Kyiv yesterday the Czechoslovak flag stained with the blood of those who defended the Czech Radio building during the first hours of the 21 August 1968 invasion.
The president stated that the flag, presented at an event where the Czech, Slovak and Ukrainian anthems were played, has become a symbol of courage and resistance against occupation. Pavel said this gesture represents solidarity with Ukraine’s struggle for freedom.
