Lazzarini: Water and Sewage Systems in Gaza Have Been Almost Completely Destroyed
Gaza, February 8 (Hibya) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), drew attention to the impact of the war on infrastructure and the water crisis in Gaza.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini stated that water supply and sewage systems in Gaza have been almost completely destroyed during the war.
Emphasizing that people in Gaza are struggling to survive, Lazzarini said, “In Gaza, people wait in long lines for hours every day just to obtain water.”
Lazzarini noted that UNRWA delivers 4.6 million liters of clean water to Gaza every day, adding that these efforts have reached more than 620,000 displaced people.
He also said, “Without our 11,500 staff members working within UNRWA, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza would be far deeper.”
