Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten called for stronger international cooperation in the governance of advanced artificial intelligence models and for greater oversight.

In a statement on his social media account, Jetten said artificial intelligence has the potential to improve quality of life, advance science and strengthen economies.

However, he said the rapid development of powerful artificial intelligence models that push the boundaries also carries significant risks if not managed properly.

Noting that the direction of artificial intelligence development is largely determined by a small number of companies and countries, Jetten stressed that this situation needs to be made fairer.

Jetten said democratic legitimacy and the public interest should form the basis and announced that, for this purpose, he had signed a declaration together with representatives of many countries calling for greater control over advanced artificial intelligence models.

Jetten said artificial intelligence would also be discussed in New York as part of the United Nations General Assembly, adding that at an event to be organized by the Netherlands together with other countries, they would advocate that artificial intelligence remain under human leadership, oversight and control.

The statement also emphasized the importance of developing and using artificial intelligence technologies within the framework of international law.
