Israel targets Hezbollah Chief of Staff Tatbai in Beirut
Beirut, November 23 (Hibya) – Israel announced that Hezbollah’s Chief of Staff, Tatbai, who was working to rebuild the group’s military and terrorist capabilities, was killed in Beirut.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Hezbollah’s Chief of Staff, Tatbai, was killed today in Beirut. The ministry noted that Tatbai had orchestrated numerous terrorist attacks against Israel over the years, led efforts to enhance the group's military capacity, and posed a threat to regional stability.
The U.S. Department of State has listed Tatbai as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) since 2016. Israel said the operation was carried out in response to repeated violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the 2024 ceasefire agreements by Hezbollah.
Israel emphasized that after October 7, it would not allow Hezbollah to rebuild its military capabilities following attacks launched from Lebanon. The ministry added that the Lebanese government’s efforts to prevent Hezbollah’s violations had failed and that the group continued its aggressive activities.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that they will continue operations with determination, responsibility, and precision to protect Israel’s security, its citizens, and regional stability. The ministry also reported that hundreds of violations were submitted to a U.S.-led international mechanism to ensure full implementation of the ceasefire agreements.
