Canadian Justice Minister Fraser met with U.S. Republican Senator Cramer during a panel at the Halifax International Security Forum. They stressed the importance of debating differences in democracy without undermining one another.

Fraser said, “Although we share many of the same priorities, we see the world differently. Today, by sharing the same stage, we discussed how we can debate our differences respectfully. Democracy is strengthened not by shouting louder than your opponent, but by people willing to listen despite challenges, and by citizens who see those with different views not as enemies but as neighbors.”
