Guterres: We cannot act as if the COP has provided everything needed
New York, November 22 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that it is difficult to reach full consensus in a period of deep geopolitical divisions, adding, “We cannot act as if the COP has provided everything needed.”
UN Secretary-General Guterres said that thanks to the selfless efforts of the Brazilian presidency, significant progress was made at COP30, demonstrating the effectiveness of multilateral diplomacy.
He mentioned that important results were achieved, but achieving full consensus in a period of deep geopolitical divides was challenging. He added:
“Therefore, it is impossible to claim that the COP has taken all the necessary steps. We must continue our efforts for higher climate targets and stronger international solidarity.”
Guterres also said: “I want to say to all those participating in the negotiations, giving advice, reporting, and taking action: do not give up. History is on your side, and the United Nations is as well.”
