Guterres: Artificial intelligence must not deepen the climate crisis
New York, July 19 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said artificial intelligence should contribute to solving the climate crisis, calling for data centers to be powered by renewable energy.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that artificial intelligence's demand for electricity, water, and land use is increasing rapidly.
Guterres stressed that AI companies should power their data centers with renewable energy by 2030 and disclose their environmental footprint, saying, "Artificial intelligence should be used to help solve the climate crisis, not to deepen it."
Guterres added, "Technology designed to protect people must also protect the planet."
