The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue.

In its statement, the ministry expressed appreciation for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' commitment to achieving a comprehensive, just, and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue within the framework of the good offices mandate entrusted to him by the United Nations Security Council.

Greece also welcomed the announcement of an informal expanded meeting to be held under UN auspices with the aim of restarting negotiations.

The statement noted that Greece acts in close coordination with the Republic of Cyprus and emphasized the importance of preserving the positive momentum that has developed on the Cyprus issue over the past more than two years.

The ministry said Greece is ready to make a constructive contribution to the success of the meeting and supports all initiatives aimed at building confidence.

The ministry stressed that the ultimate objective remains the resolution of the Cyprus issue and the reunification of the island in line with the framework established by the United Nations Security Council.
