United Nations (UN) Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Tom Fletcher issued a statement regarding the airstrike carried out in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

Fletcher said in a social media post that there were reports of dozens of people killed and injured in an airstrike on a market in the town of Kyauktaw.

Describing the reports of the attack as “horrific,” Fletcher stressed that civilians must be protected and international humanitarian law must be respected.

Fletcher also said that humanitarian workers continue to remain in the area and deliver aid despite the danger.
