Deniz polisinden Adalar çevresinde 'deniz taksi' denetimi

The European Union (EU) issued a statement on the escalation of clashes in Ethiopia and rising tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

In its statement, the EU said the current situation could trigger a broader regional conflict, with serious consequences for peace and stability across the Horn of Africa.

Calling for immediate de-escalation on all fronts, the EU urged the parties to refrain from actions and rhetoric that could further increase tensions. It said that, within the framework of the African Union, the parties to the Agreement for Lasting Cessation of Hostilities should renew their commitment to its full implementation.

The statement stressed that compliance with international humanitarian law is mandatory, adding that civilians must be protected under all circumstances and that unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance must be ensured.

Reiterating that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected, the EU called on external actors to refrain from interference, use their influence to prevent further escalation and advance political solutions and diplomacy.

The EU said it remains committed to regional stability, peaceful cooperation and economic integration in the Horn of Africa and is ready to support diplomatic efforts aimed at establishing meaningful dialogue and resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
