Dutch Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans made a statement regarding the presence of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean region and the efforts underway to ensure the security of the islands.

During his engagements with military personnel and officials in the region, Brekelmans emphasized the importance of keeping defence strategies up to date.

Referring to the importance of the presence in the region and ongoing activities, Brekelmans said: “It is important for the Kingdom to be present in the Caribbean region. I am meeting with military personnel and officials to monitor efforts to ensure the security of the islands and to follow developments.”

Sharing the current security assessment and readiness level, Minister Brekelmans concluded: “Although there is currently no immediate threat to the islands, we are prepared for various scenarios.”
